Hans Wegner was a Danish designer with a long career starting in the 1930s. He is renowned for his iconic chair designs. This sling seat stool is a nod to his master design skills!
We will start with rough hewn boards and cover milling, table saw skills and spend a lot of time with the router. Prepare to be engaged! Furniture making is problem solving. Aside from learning new skills on the machines, this class will challenge you to think in new ways. You will learn template cutting, how to cut slots with the plunge router and how and when to use the router table. Most important, you will learn concepts that can be used again and again as you encounter new building challenges in future projects. We’ll have a good time and you’ll leave with a well built stool to show off and a genuine sense of accomplishment.

It will be a bustling, busy time! Time permitting, we will finish the boards with food safe mineral oil.
There will be a selection of hardwoods to choose from at the start and you will have an excellent reason to buy lots of extra snacks at the end! You’re welcome!

11-1:30 pm
Two 3 hr sessions
Class- $220 + $65 material fee
This is a two session class on bending wood using a technique called bent lamination.
We will use forms to curve and glue veneer into this sleek shape.
We’ll also build a little armature inside to hold the bulb and then wire the whole thing up together.
The lamp has a high quality cloth covered wire with a thumb switch to turn it on and off.
Want to make two? You can!
Plan on staying an extra 30-45 minutes both sessions.
Cost - an additional $70 for the class + $65 materials.
Saturday Dec 7th 3-6
2 1/2 hr session
Let’s explore chunky minimalist shapes!
Clean lines and well proportioned curves will guide you in this short but busy class. Each student will pick two shapes and two blank blocks to start with. There will be a variety of wood species to choose from.
We will discuss order of operations, fixtures and safety techniques when working small.
You will use the band saw, router, drill press, edge sander and (maybe) the table saw to make these shapes, then we’ll polish them up and you won’t believe how silky smooth they feel!
Know you’ll want to make more? No problem.
Plan on an extra hour and leave with 2 more shapes.
*Shapes can be drilled to fit standard tea lights or standard 7/8” tapered candles.

This is a semi private lesson series building a table from start to finish (almost finished?). Recommended for AFTER taking AT LEAST one of the other classes.
The focus is on the process of going from a concept to a finished product and less about finishing all of the details of your particular project.
The series follows this structure-
Session 1 - Design session/includes layout and detailed planning 3-4 hours
Session 2 - Field trip to the lumber yard to pick out boards 3-4 hours
Sessions 3 to 8 - Hands on building sessions
We will meet in groups of two for semi private lessons. You will build the same project as your colleague (variations in height, length, wood species are ok). You will make most of the design decisions, however I will give you a structured way to go about this. I’d like to see you incorporate at least one taper or shape into your design so you get some practice making jigs. You can choose the joinery as well. The other classes will prepare you for making these decisions.
There’s a lot of room to make each table unique, but I will keep you on schedule. By the end, you should feel confident getting from point A to B.
Price does not include materials, however I will facilitate procuring all materials. If you need more time to finish your project, we’ll add time at the end on a pro-rated schedule.
Pictured here are some other student projects made in this class. (They did take longer than 24 hours).
Want specific instruction on a skill or technique?
Have a project you want to conquer?

You will have my full attention and use of the studio.
I charge $80/ hour on weekdays. $90/ hour on weekends.
I schedule 3 hour weekday sessions around the following time blocks: 11-2pm, 3-6 pm or 7-10pm.
If that isn’t possible for you, with some planning we can probably figure something else out.
I don’t have set times for weekends, but there is a 4 hour minimum.
Please note, I don’t know how long your project will take. Everyone has different skill levels, expectations and goals. We will discuss your unique needs at the beginning of our time together and I’ll do my best to set you up for success!

Mondays Jan 13th to March 3rd
5:30-8:30pm
8 weekly 3 hr sessions
3-6 students
Chairs are complicated and there are a lot of parts. This is an excellent and fun exercise in staying organized on a project from start to finish and an opportunity to see how small line productions are manufactured.
We will work as a group for the first 3 sessions. Everyone will have the opportunity to set up the machines at each of the different work stations. Participants will work on their own specific chair in later sessions after most of the parts are roughed out.
This is a challenging class. You will get a lot more out of it, if you take the wegner stool or plant stand class first. Then you’ll be ready!
Gift certificates are non refundable, but good for one year from time of purchase.
They can be used for credit towards any class or private lessons.
Tuesdays Jan 7th- Feb 11th
6:30-9:30pm
Tuesdays Feb 18th- Mar 25th
7-10pm
Class- $465 + $55 material fee
6 weekly 3hr sessions
Starting with rough hewn boards, students move through all the main machines in the shop. We cover jointing, planing and spend a good amount of time on the table saw.
In fact, if the table saw is where you want to up your game, look no further than this class! Your fears and hesitations will be addressed. We’ll dive deep into safety and hand positions. You’ll learn how to choose the right blade for the job, cut tapers and use the dado blades.
You will become a master of refinement as we walk through set ups to cut half lap and bridle joints. Concepts learned here can be used to improve your accuracy at any of the machines.
You will set up all machines after demonstrations, so you remember how. These are extremely small classes and emphasis is placed on learning by doing.
